The Mandela Month celebrations continued in Capricorn District Municipality as the municipality extended a helping hand to make a difference in yet another community. On the 26 July 2017, the district municipality led by the Executive Mayor Cllr John Mpe donated a fully refurbished community centre to the people of Mmamatsha at Ga-Molepo in Polokwane Municipality.
The refurbished community centre has been utilised as a pensioners pay-point, a crèche and a community hall for meetings at Ga-Ntona Sontaga. The Executive Mayor officially opened the community centre which has been refurbished from an old dilapidated building to a renovated structure inside and outside with new painting, roof, floor tiles, chairs and others. The work done on the building included re-roofing, tiling, windows fitting, re-patching and constructing of a ramp, installation of new doors, painting, small walking pave and re-roofing of toilets separate from the building.
The old wire fence of the yard has been upgraded with a new steel fence. The water yard connection and electrical connections plugs and switches, grading of the park and planting of trees were done. The kiddies play park was created with provision and installation of children play swings, slides and painted tyres. The handover was done in partnership with Polokwane Municipality. Speaking during the handover the Executive Mayor thanked all the stakeholder who came on board and contributed in kind their time and resources to ensure the creation of a contusive environment for children, the elderly and the community of Mmamatsha at large.
Welcoming the people to the celebration, Kgoshi Maremo Molepo expressed their heartfelt appreciation and extended words of gratitude to the leadership present led by Executive Mayor Cllr John Mpe, who also hail from Mmamatsha, that charity begins at home. It is good when leaders never forget were they come from and in their respective position they remember and put the community they serve first. The handover event was attended by councillors, officials, religious and community structures, community members, businesses, teachers, parents, businesses, moshate wa Ga-Molepo and others.
