On 07 August 2026, the Capricorn District Municipality District Disaster Group conducted a project progress visit to the Malatane and Klipheuwil Riverbed Filtration Systems, assessing the implementation of these critical water infrastructure projects and gaining first-hand insight into the progress made on site.
The projects are funded through the Disaster Response Grant (DRG), a government funding mechanism aimed at supporting municipalities to respond to and recover from disasters, address urgent infrastructure needs and restore essential services to affected communities.
The DRG also plays an important role in strengthening disaster resilience by enabling municipalities to implement interventions that reduce vulnerability and improve communities’ ability to withstand future disasters.
The riverbed filtration systems form part of ongoing efforts to strengthen water security and sustainable water supply, particularly in communities facing water-related challenges. These interventions seek to provide resilient water solutions while supporting reliable access to this essential resource.
The site visit further formed part of the District’s ongoing monitoring and oversight efforts to ensure that DRG-funded projects were progressing effectively, delivering value for money and responding to the needs of communities.
The District Disaster Group remained committed to strengthening disaster preparedness, resilient infrastructure, water security and sustainable service delivery across the district.
