We listened, we heard – says Executive Mayor

“We listened, we heard and we will implement”, concludes Executive Mayor John Mpe as he responds to questions and maps a way forward at a council imbizo held at Dilaeneng in Blouberg on 14 September 2017. The council imbizo is part of the Capricorn District Municipality’s public participation programme that is held every quarter. The imbizo afforded community members an opportunity to engage directly with their lead, a platform which people offer praises and raise concerns on issues of service delivery within their communities. 

The service delivery issues raised relates to water provision, electricity, housing, education, community safety and others. As issues were raised the leadership of the local municipality of Blouberg led by Mayor Cllr Maseka Pheedi and Capricorn District Municipality led by Executive Mayor Cllr John Mpe responded. The Executive Committee (EXCO) of Blouberg and Mayoral Committee of Capricorn District Municipality both respond to issues based on their portfolios in council. 

The community raised dissatisfaction regarding existing projects and an outline of the projects was provided by the municipality. The Executive Mayor concluded the session by mapping a way forward were he indicated that as the government of the people they have listened, they heard and they will implement. This was a commitment to the community that the municipality uphold its motto of ‘Re Soma le Setshaba’.
