The Executive Mayor Cllr Mamedupi Teffo welcomed the Ambassador of the Netherlands Johanne Doornewaard on an ambassadorial visit to Capricorn District Municipality which commenced at CDM Offices at the Executive Mayor’s Boardroom in Polokwane on 14 October 2024. The ambassador’s visit was related to the work they fund through the Social Change Assistance Trust. The CDM Special Focus Unit has been involved in these programmes through the coordination of Community-Based Organizations in the district.
The trust is funding Moroakola Drop-in Centre in Ga-Mashashane outside Polokwane. Following the meeting between the two, the team proceeded to Ga-Mashashane Moshate for a courtesy visit where they met with Kgoshi Mashashane to brief the traditional authority before proceeding to the drop-in center. “We as the Traditional Authority are grateful for the work you are doing and to the leaders who ensure such initiatives have their support. I hope they can be involved in more projects in our community,” said Kgoshi Magadangele II Mashashane.
The center is a beneficiary of the Ambassador’s Office fund through the Social Change Assistance Trust. The work of the centre includes promoting sustainable livelihoods in the area of food security through provision of permaculture training. They provide boreholes to ensure reliable access to water, community grants and other form of assistance. Speaking at Moroakola Drop-In Centre at Ga-Kgasa Village Executive Mayor appreciated the work of the center. She said that when she visited the area in July 2024, she noted shortage of space as one of the challenges at the center.
“They play an important role as everyday after school they help children with homework and give them a meal. At times because of budget constraints and the number of children that come to the centre, it becomes difficult to provide something everyday but regardless they come. The Morwakola volunteers work hard to make the most out of the little that they have . They do a remarkable job, and our plea to the community is let’s assist where we can,” Executive Mayor Cllr. Mamedupi Teffo said. She further appreciated the ambassador’s contribution, the wonderful relationship South Africa has with the Kingdom of the Netherlands and wished for the mobilisation of more funders to come assist the District where they can.
