THALANE WATER PROJECT WAS SUCCESSFULLY HANDED-OVER TO THE COMMUNITY

“This time our focus is Blouberg. 70% of Municipal Infrastructure Grant is for water projects in Blouberg. Our only challenge here is we are still relying on underground water, and some places are very dry, but the municipality is trying its best,” said Cllr. Mamedupi Teffo.
She also called on the community to look after their infrastructure, watch out for the vandalizing of infrastructure and the illegal connection of water. Cllr. Teffo was addressing the community, during the handing-over ceremony held at Thalane village on 25 October 2022.
” Before this project we were struggling with water, now we are able to get water from taps, our life is a bit better these days, said Silas Sehata, a community member at Thalane.
The project comes as a direct intervention to resolve water shortages in the area by increasing access to water and further reduce backlogs in Blouberg. The project, which cost R6m, took roughly seven months to complete and it is set to benefit 793 households in the area. It also comes as a fulfillment of a commitment made by Executive Mayor Cllr Mamedupi Teffo during her inauguration to expedite water supply to communities without delay and fight poverty.
