SPECIAL MINISTERIAL MEETING ON WATER ISSUES UNDERWAY

“This upgrading of the Groothoek Mphahlele regional water scheme by Lepelle Northern Water Board will constitute a massive investment in an effort to ensure that our people have more access to water once it is fully complete,” said the Executive Mayor Mamedupi Teffo during the walkabout with the Minister of Water and Sanitation Senzo Mchunu at the Olifantspoort RWS on 13 July 2023 in the Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality.

The Executive Mayor was part of the delegates attending the special meeting chaired by Minister Senzo Mchunu at Bolivia Lodge which deliberated on delays that were caused when implementing water projects that are hindering the supply of water to communities.
Communities were also urged not to vandalize infrastructure and were advised to take ownership of projects coming to the area.
The meeting also notified the public that Olifants Water Treatment works has been declared a National key point. The National Key Points Act, 1980 is an act of the Parliament of South Africa that provides for the declaration and protection of sites of national strategic importance against sabotage, as determined by the Minister of Police since 2004 and the Minister of Defence before that.
