SEMS portfolio committee doing oversight visit of sanitation project

The Capricorn District Municipality portfolio committee for Strategic Executive Management Service (SEMS), comprised of Councillors was doing an oversight project visit of sanitation project in Molemole Municipality. The project visit was held on 06 August 2020 at Flora and Ga-Phaudi Village respectively. The portfolio committee is continuing to do oversight duties of council on projects continuing to be implemented throughout the current financial year 2020/2021.

The name of the project is Capricorn Household Sanitation for Molemole Local Municipality valued at R8, 8 million which is the construction of 820 units of Urine Ventilation Improved Pit Latrines for Flora and Ga-Phaudi villages. The consultant and contract are Maswika Consulting Engineers and Mokwedi Civil and Projects respectively. The project started in November 2018 and is expected to be completed by end of September 2020.

“Sanitation is an essential project, it is important that the project be completed to ensure our people get the services as expected. The challenges of this project should be resolved as a matter of urgency, ” said Cllr Mothata, Chairperson of SEMS Portfolio Committee.

The challenges raised as noted by the committee included the hard rock found during excavation which had high impact and affected the initially planned time frame, delay as a result of Covid-19 and non payment of laborers on time.
