SCHOOL SAFETY CAMPAIGN CONTINUES AT ZB

Capricorn District Muncipality continue to put learners safety on its service delivery agenda. The district municipality paid an unannounced visit to Matladi and Chita Kekana Secondary Schools in Zebediela. The visit was part of the district school safety campaign wherein the municipality together with the South African Police Service (SAPS), Community Policing Forum and Community Safety Forum visit schools to do a random searching of leaners.
This comes after a number of schools have raised concerns to the municipality during the back to school campaign held in January on leaners selling and using drugs and substances at schools, which possed a serious safety risk within the schools. The educatoers appealed to the muncipality to intervene and assist in the matter.
The municipality has since responded by intensifying its campaigns across the district. During the search the team found cellular phones, cigarette, and other items which were not allowed in the school at Matladi Secondary School, while nothing was found at Chita Kekane Secondary School.
The team was joined by the Chairperson of the portfolio committee on Sports and Recreation, Arts and Culture, Cllr. Makgato Machaba. Cllr Machaba encouraged the learners, to focus on their education and forget about things that will destruct them from their studies.
