SCHOOL DEBATE ON ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) in partnership with the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA) hosted a Primary School Environmental Debate, at Makanye Primary School in Makanye, just outside Polokwane, on 09 November 2023.
The debate was part of an Eco-School Programme run by CDM and WESSA. The debate competition was between learners from eight primary schools in the Mankweng area.
Eco-debate topics were; Should we restrict mining to protect the environment, Should the government ban single-use plastics, Should we destroy a wetland to build a solar form? Should environmental science be its own subject at school, Is climate change the biggest environmental issue we are experiencing?
The results of the competition; 3rd prize went to Toronto Primary School, 2nd prize was taken by Dikolobe Primary School, and the winner was Pula-Madibogo Primary School.
