Premier Mathabatha launch Capricorn DDM

Capricorn District Municipality held a successful launch of the District Development Model (DDM) on 07 February 2020, at Polokwane Aganang Cluster Sports Ground, Ceres Village in Polokwane Municipality. The launch of the DDM was championed by the Premier of Limpopo, Chupu Stanley Mathabatha. Capricorn District Municipality led by Executive Mayor Cllr John Mpe was the first district to launch the DDM in the province.

The DDM was first launched in the province by President Cyril Ramaphosa last year on the 26th November 2019 at Ga-Shongoane Sports Ground in Lephalale, in Waterberg District Municipality.

The model aims to accelerate, align and integrate service delivery under a single development plan per district, or metro that is developed jointly by national, provincial and local government as well as business, labour and community in each district. Each district plan will ensure that national priorities such as economic growth and employment, improvements to living conditions, the fight against crime and corruption and better education outcomes are attended to in the locality concerned. This development approach ensures that planning and spending across the three spheres of government is integrated and aligned and that each district plan is developed with the interests and inputs of communities taken into account upfront.

The intervention is also in line with the National Development Plan, which outlines the importance of building a capable state in partnership with the citizens of this country. This requires well-run and effectively coordinated state institutions staffed by skilled public servants who are committed to the public good and capable of delivering consistently high-quality services for all South Africans.

The launch was attended by Members of the Executive Councils (MECs), Executive Mayors and Mayors from other districts in the province, Councillors, traditional leaders, business community and other stakeholders and community members.
