MPAC visit Letswatla Water Supply project

Municipal Public Account Committee (MPAC) of CDM embarked on a project visit at Letswatla Water Supply in Letswatla village Blouberg Local Municipality. The visit was part of the committees oversight responsibility to oversee the projects implemented by the municipality and progress to ensure that finances are utilised for its specific purpose in accordance with the requirements. The project was nearing completion with outstanding work being energising, testing and commissioning of two boreholes and one package plant.

The community is currently using desiel for pumping supply of water. The project budget was about R11.3 million and expenditure to date is R10.58 million. The consultant is Tshashu Consulting and Projects Managers whereas the contractor is Lesedisedi Construction, Suppliers Enterprise.

MPAC members enterogated the project implementors in relation to the challenges, supply, implementation status sustainability, safety and job creation of the project. The project was initially envisaged to be completed within 6 months but due to challenges encountered during the implementation process it has already bypassed the period to 19 months to date.

The project is currently waiting to be energised by Eskom. Once energised the project commissioning will be done and all outstanding connections will be completed. The chaiperson of the MPAC appealed to both the contractors and consultant to continuously engage the community to give progress on outstanding matters to ensure regular updates to community. The committee will write a report to council and give recommendations based on its findings on all projects.
