Minister Nkoana-Mashabane visit Botlokwa in celebration of Charlotte Mannya Maxeke

“Cabinet has declared 2021 the year of Charlotte Mannya Maxeke. 2021 is the 150th anniversary of Charlotte Maxeke and a number of activities have taken place in April in her honor, with 7 April 1874 being her birth month.

This is to recognise one of South Africa’s great women who served the country with excellence excelling in politics, religion, education, community develoment and women empowerment”, said Minister in the Department of Women, Youth, and People with Disabilities Maite Nkoana-Mashabane on 22 April 2021 at Botlokwa in Molemole Local Municipality. 

The Minister visited the area as part of celebrations for the year of Charlotte Maxeke and the Women Manyano programme. The minister and her deligation also visited the Mannya family home in Mokomeni. They also had an event at the AME church which Charlotte Maxeke used to attend.

“Charlotte Maxeke was a firebrand and a visionary leader who was ahead of her time. I call on all of government and civil society to espouse the values she stood for and to strive towards the vision she had for a progressive and inclusive country, she served the country with distinction, always concerned with community development and education of our youth,” said Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane.
