Mandela Day

“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead” – Madiba said.

To respond to this call the District will be having a series of activities during this Mandela month.  On the 17th we will be joining the sod turning of Mafefe Sport Academy funded by lottery SA under Mafefe Trust Funds led by Kgosi Setlamorago Thobehane.

On the 18th ( Mandela day) we will be handing over school uniform to destitute child headed family, painting orphanage home, cooking, baking, doing garden, etc. We will be led by our Executive Mayor, cllr MG Kganyago.

Our sister municipalities (Aganang, Blouberg, Molemole, Lepele-Nkumpi and Polokwane will also be having Mandela Day activities. For more information or contact Jabu Masondo @ 0823020566

Nelson Mandela International Day was launched in recognition of Nelson Mandela’s birthday on 18 July, 2009 via unanimous decision of the UN General Assembly.

It was inspired by a call Nelson Mandela made a year earlier, for the next generation to take on the burden of leadership in addressing the world’s social injustices when he said that “it is in your hands now”.

It is more than a celebration of Madiba’s life and legacy. It is a global movement to honour his life’s work and act to change the world for the better.
