MAFEFE THUSONG SERVICE CENTRE LAUNCHED

Thusong Service Centres (TSC) continue to play a vital role in giving our communities access to government services, particularly those who live below the poverty line in rural and disadvantaged areas.
“The government is creating a convenient platform for you to have the presence of public administration in your own community without traveling long distances to Lebowakgomo for services. The people of Mafefe and Mathabatha have spoken and we listened and today we have answered your plight, and that is why we have chosen to open this officially on Thusong Service Week because access to services is the essence of Batho Pele principles” Cllr Solly Mahlatji said. The MMC for SEMS was representing the Executive Mayor, Cllr Mamedupi Teffo.
He said this during the launch of Mafefe Thusong Service Centre held on 22 September 2022 at Mafefe Village under Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality. This TSC will help wards 27, 28, and 29 in accessing Government services closer.
For many years, Lepelle-Nkumpi never had a Thusong Service Centre and they had to travel far and wide to access services of various kinds. The government has brought those services to the people of Mafefe and Mathabatha where they can:
– Apply for ID documents or correct them
– Do affidavits and report crime
– Register their birth, marriages and death certificates and change names
– Apply for social grants
– Enquire about water supply issues, RDP houses, electricity and sanitation.
– Get information on how to start own business and apply for funding;
– Gain access to currently advertised vacancies in government
– Get access to skills development and poverty alleviation programmes such as Community Works programme, EPWP, bursaries and government learnerships and agricultural programs
– Enquire about indigent registration to qualify for free basic services
– Submit grade 11 and 12 exam papers to department of education closer
– and many other services
Currently they travel more than 70 kilometers to Lebowakgomo to get their services. The following sector departments confirmed their availability to be taking allocated place and to give the community of Mafefe services, Home Affairs, Health, SAPS, SASSA, Social Development, Eskom, LEDET, Agriculture, and Education.
“We appreciate CDM for coordinating this program to come closer to us. We were paying R150 to go to Lebowakgomo to access government services and now, one will just walk to this centre” Maria Thobejane a community member said. The Thusong Service Centre Programme Service Delivery Model also focuses on a perfected integration of partnerships with in civil society and the private sector, to achieve a successful model that South Africans can be truly proud of.
Cllr Solly Mahlatji also extended his gratitude to all social partners who have supported the programme since its inception.
The 2022 Annual Thusong Service Centre Week takes place in conjunction with Public Service Month, under the theme Batho Pele Revitalisation – Walking the Talk, that is taking, place from 19 – 23 September 2022. Another Thusong Center that is going to be launched is Moletlane TSC in Zebediela under the same municipality.
