DISTRICT AIDS COUNCIL HOLD ITS QUARTELY MEETING

Capricorn District Aids Council (DAC) had its quarterly meeting at CDM’s Council Chamber on 22 September 2022.
The council meets once a quarter to look at issues around HIV/Aids, as it affects the community in the district. The District Aids Council strengthens and enhances the country’s response to the major challenge of HIV/Aids, to ensure that its efforts reflect the true expression of the situation in communities.
The most important roles of DACs are to:
– Bring together the most important organizations and government departments that are involved in the fight against AIDS in the district
– Make sure that there is a strategy for tackling HIV/AIDS in the district
– Monitor implementation of the strategy and initiate work where there are no local projects
– Help to mobilize resources and build capacity for AIDS projects and for Local AIDS Councils
Most of the work on AIDS is happening at a local level under Polokwane Municipality, Molemole municipality, Lepelle Nkumpi Local Municipality and Blouberg Local Municipality. Our DACs works very closely with Local Aids Councils (LAC) that are chaired by local Mayors.
All LACs in all municipalities in a district, sends representatives to the DAC so that there can be better coordination. DACs also help LACs to develop strategies, set up projects and access funding and resources.
In closing the meeting CDM’s Executive Mayor, Cllr. Mamedupi Teffo, who is also the Chairperson of the District Aids Council, thanked all the stakeholders for their support and active participation in the work of the council.
