Kgakoa Secondary Schools score big at the Capricorn District Municipality Disaster Management School competition. The school was named winner for the Essay category and also scooped second position in the Oral category taking home another R20 000 cash prize.

“Every school and every learner participating in this competition is a winner. The work of the school that won in the essay category, has shown intense research that went into their work. Their essay reflected a combination of hard work and creativity,” said Winnie Thaba giving remarks on behalf of judges. The competition was held on 13 February 2020 at Polokwane Royal Hotel.  

Kgakoa Secondary School hails from Moletjie Makgodu under Polokwane Municipality. The learners representing the school namely Koena Mametja, Junior Semono and Nthakgeng Kgafe each received a tablet, school bags with stationary pack, memory sticks, certificates and medals. The Educator Mrs Muthiyane also received a tablet. The leaners could not hold themselves as tears of joy filled their eyes. “We are so happy to be the winners, all our hard work has paid off,” said jubilant learners.

“These tablets are for personal use, we believe they will assist you to conduct more researches in your work and for the betterment of your development. We are sure you are moving out of this competition confident and inspired. Surely, you will never be the same again. This exercise has been more than just a competition, it has educated us all,” said Programme Director, Cllr Jara Masubelele Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Strategic Executive Management Service.
