“We have a responsibility to impart knowledge on the dangers of fire and the devastating effects it has on our lives,” said Cllr Rahlana, MMC for Community Service during the International Fire Fighters Day Build-up event held at Malatane Community Hall, Ga-Seloane Moshate in Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality on 14 April 2023.
The community received presentations from CDM Fire Services and Working on Fire (WOF) on the dangers, causes and preventative measures of fire (man-made, natural and field fires). Other stakeholders that presented included, South African Police Service (SAPS), Municipal Health Service (MHS), Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment (DFFE) and CDM Disaster Management.
SAPS took time to engage with community and conscientized parents about safety of children, rape in families, human trafficking, alcohol and drug abuse. Warrant Officer Kekana appealed to parents to speak openly with their children and report any suspicions to the Police.
Kgoshigadi Seloane thanked the Municipality for the awareness and said “challenges in our communities needs all of us to work together, government alone cannot do it.”
