IDDR held at Ga-Maribane

“I call on all members of the public to ensure that they fully participate in programs that work towards ensuring that communities are protected from disasters and that the risk of disasters are mitigated,” said Cllr. Betty Kgare, Member of Mayoral Committee for Community Services.
Cllr. Kgare was speaking during the International Day for Disaster Reduction main district event held at Ga-Maribane in Polokwane Municipality on 12 October 2021.
The event is held yearly to commemorate the IDDR day, which is aimed at encouraging people to be involved in disaster reduction.
Other stakeholders such as the Department of Health, Department of Local Economic Development Environment and Tourism, Molemole Traffic, Molemole Environ mental Management, SAPS, and Independent Electoral Commission gave messages of support.
Another IDDR event will be held on 26 October 2021 virtually with the schools that participated in CDM’s disaster competition. Build up events were held at Ga-Molepo, Cooperspark and Mamaolo in October 2021.
The Department of Health also took the opportunity to vaccinate the community from Covid-19.
The theme for this year’s event is “Substantially enhance district development model through adequate and sustainable support to compliment district disaster magement programs”.
