IN a move set to empower grade 12 learners and prepare them for their coming final exam, Capricorn District Municipality has this week convened 300 learners at a 5-day matric camp at Pax College outside Polokwane for extra lessons.
Executive Mayor Cllr Mamedupi Teffo visited the camp on 07 October 2021 and interacted with learners ahead of their departure tomorrow afternoon tomorrow to wish them luck for the exams.
The camp is part of CDM’s matric intervention programmes to support schools with special catch-up lessons and prepare leaners for matric examination in order to improve the overall district matric performance. The Municipality has increased the intake of learners from 160 in 2020 to 300 this year in order to cater for more learners who are drawn from both Capricorn North and Capricorn South districts.
District Executive Manager Mrs Nkuzana told learners that they were in the hands of the best teachers. “The municipality has done its best. The ball is in your court”, she said.
Executive Mayor said it was without doubt that anything that CDM supports, becomes a resounding success. “This is who we are as the District Municipality; this is what we stand for because we are the Home of Excellence. And I therefore commend the District Department of Education for once again joining us in this journey to assist and prepare you for the final examination”, she said, adding that “this is because education is very close to our hearts and we are well attuned to the challenges that hinder your matric performance” .
“That is why our involvement is not just about doing back-to-school campaign in January, talk, take photos and disappear. Our involvement is real in that we invest in the future of African child; and this matric intervention programme has proved to be bearing fruit and has a shining history of success – having produced excellent matric results and many distinctions in 2020”, she said and concluded by wishing them all the best of luck.
