The Executive Mayor, Cllr Mamedupi Teffo has joined the Deputy Minister of Communication, Hon. Phil Mapulane as they host the Provincial Digital Summit at Fusion Boutique, Polokwane.
In her opening remarks, she reiterated the importance of digital connectivity and access to information by our communities.
“The Capricorn District Municipality has got no doubt that this Summit will find lasting solutions to the connectivity challenges in our communities, which often make it difficult for us to address the developmental needs of our communities through access to information, owing to the expensive cost of data, and poor or lack of digital communications infrastructure in our villages,” Executive Mayor said.
Previously CDM has worked with the Department of Communications to launch the digital ambassador’s program at the Capricorn TVET College in April. This program was targeting students as a reminder of how much they need connectivity to access study material while learners in high schools need the internet to access career guidance information.
The Executive Mayor welcomed everyone in this Digital Summit that will deliberate on the question of what government and the IT industry can jointly do to play a meaningful role in ensuring universal, fast, affordable, or free access to connectivity to foster a vibrant and inclusive information society.
