The Executive Mayor Cllr Mamedupi Teffo joined the Deputy Minister in the Presidency Thembi Siweya and MEC for LEDET Thabo Mokone to launch the Radio Turf digital studio launch at University of Limpopo in Mankweng under Polokwane Local Municipality. MDDA funded the digital studio at a value of R1,7 million.
βOur district is pre-dominantly rural and our community radio stations are best placed to ensure widespread access to information and therefore become very central to our nation-building process, β said Executive Mayor Cllr Mamedupi Teffo.
βWe commend the MDDA for putting more efforts and resources to enable the station to carry out its mandate of informing, educating and entertaining us,β said Executive Mayor.
βAs a District Municipality that works closely with community media such as this Station, we are hopeful that with this support, you will strengthen your presence in the telecommunications sector and become an alternative voice to commercial radio stations and the public broadcaster.
You are a living monument in this Mankweng community because you have always been armed with nothing but enthusiasm and a big heart to serve your community,β emphasised Executive Mayor.
She added that, βnot many campus-based community radio stations have this huge footprint and listenership outside of campus, but Radio Turf is known far and wide because your passion speaks volumes about commitment to reach new heights. You are indeed βthe Station that listens to the peopleβ.
