The Executive Mayor Cllr Mamedupi Teffo together with Santam hosted a successful Business Breakfast Session at Meropa Casino in Polokwane on 09 November 2023.The purpose of the session was to bring together corporates, academia, SOEs, research institutions, and Civil Society organizations within the Capricorn District with the aim of showcasing the work achieved through collaborative partnerships as motivation and encouragement to partner with the district in addressing these risks.
The Executive Mayor Cllr Mamedupi Teffo expressed heartfelt gratitude to Santam for being a very important, key business in Disaster Risk Reduction and building resilience communities since the year 2022.
“Let me hasten to emphasize that without partnerships, no municipality can adequately perform its function or discharge its service delivery mandate – and disaster management is no exception,” said the Executive Mayor appealing to businesses and indicating that the district has open to opportunities toward building sustainable partnerships to better communities.
The partnership with Santam has seen the district municipality benefiting through donations of high-quality fire and disaster management equipment, training of educators and volunteers, awareness campaigns, participation in the disaster management school competition, and related programs.
In attendance were representatives from various business structures, academic institutions, and companies who showed more interest in working with the municipality.
The day ended with the Executive Mayor Cllr Mamedupi Teffo awarding the district disaster management team for excellence in the disaster management service throughout the district.
The team was comprised of Disaster Management Practitioners from Capricorn District, Polokwane and Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipalities. This was also in honour of their long service in the field particularly in the local sphere of government.
