EXECUTIVE MAYOR HANDED OVER AVON WATER PROJECT ON 20 MARCH 2026

The Executive Mayor of Capricorn District Municipality, Cllr Mamedupi Teffo, officially handed over the Avon Water Supply Project in Blouberg on 20 March 2026. The project, which was completed between August 2025 and January 2026 at a total cost of R19.2 million, marked a significant milestone in improving access to clean water in the district.

Cllr Teffo was joined by the Mayor of Blouberg Municipality, Cllr Maria Thamaga, the Speaker of Council, Members of the Mayoral Committee, and the municipal administration led by Municipal Manager Mr Ramakuntwane Selepe.

The project benefits 1,243 households and created 57 local jobs, significantly improving access to clean and reliable water. The infrastructure delivered includes boreholes, 9.5 km of pipelines, water storage tanks, and 40 standpipes.

The handover formed part of the International World Water Month programme, with the Department of Water and Sanitation playing a key supporting role. Lepelle Northern Water, as the regional water board, also attended the event, reinforcing collaborative efforts to strengthen water service delivery in the district.

This development advances water security initiatives and improves community health, quality of life, and sustainable service delivery. It reflects the municipality’s commitment to “Re šoma le setšhaba” in improving basic services for all.
