EXECUTIVE MAYOR CLLR. TEFFO ADDRESSES YOUTH AT UNISA LAW DIALOGUE

The Executive Mayor, Cllr. Mamedupi Teffo, has engaged with students at UNISA Polokwane as they commemorate Youth Day through a special Dialogue event on 20 June 2025.
The youth dialogue brought together UNISA Law students, graduates, and practising attorneys for an exchange of ideas centered on justice, equity, and youth empowerment.
Delivering the keynote address, the Executive Mayor of Capricorn District Municipality, Her Worship, Cllr. Mamedupi Teffo, emphasised the importance of acknowledging the unfinished business of South Africa’s transformation agenda.
“The theme for this Dialogue challenges us to look beyond the political liberation achieved in 1994, and acknowledge that the struggle for true emancipation continues. It calls on us to revisit the core aspirations of our Freedom Charter and understand that while we have a Constitution and other robust laws, the fundamental issues of land injustice and inequality still persist,” said the Executive Mayor.
She further urged young people to actively engage with the law as a tool for transformation:
“The theme also calls on the youth to actively engage with how the law can be used as a powerful instrument for transformative change—ensuring that land, a deeply symbolic resource, is distributed justly, and that the promise of a truly equitable society, where justice is not just a concept but a lived reality for all, is finally fulfilled.”
The dialogue created a platform for reflection and action, aligning the voices of emerging legal professionals with the call for social justice and meaningful reform.
