Executive Mayor attends SOPA

The Executive Mayor of Capricorn District Municipality Cllr John Mpe attended the State of the Province address. SOPA is an annual prestigious government calendar programme that is attended by politicians and dignitaries from all over the province and beyond delivered by the Premier of Limpopo Stan Mathabatha. SOPA took place on 23 February 2017 at Jack Botes Hall, Polokwane in the Capricorn District.

SOPA is an annual platform for the Premier to outline to the citizens of the province the government programmes for the financial year 2018/2019 and also give progress made on service delivery programmes.

The red carpet event was attended by dignitaries and various stakeholders within public and private sector. The premier led an entourage that saw an astonishing procession. There were entertainment by cultural groups and schools forming part of the activities for the day.

The process and significance of the SOPA was outlined by the Speaker of Legislature Polly Boshielo during a media briefing held on Wednesday 21 February 2018. The SOPA was widely broadcasted in order to reach the public within and outside the province. It was broadcasted live on DSTV channel 408, SABC Combo and community radio stations in Limpopo.

“The SOPA will be debated in the Legislature on Tuesday, 27 February 2018 and the premier will reply on Thursday in the Legislature in Lebowakgomo. The budget speech will then be tabled on 6 March, where after the departments will table their budgets in the Legislature, two to three departments at a time”, outlined Boshielo.
