District mayors out in full swing to underperforming schools

Executive Mayor Gilbert Kganyago and mayors of local municipalities have embarked on back-to-school programme to visit schools that did well and those that under-performed in the 2014 matric results.

Kganyago and Polokwane Executive Mayor Thembi Nkadimeng kick-started their visits on Wednesday 14 January 2015 at Monyong High School with Premier Stan Mathabatha to congratulate the school for being the most improved school in Limpopo and Hoerskool Pietersburg (PHS) where they interacted with educators and learners, giving a motivational talk and wishing them well for their grade 12.

Speaking to learners at PHS, Kganyago expressed CDM’s pride in the school’s remarkable achievement (99,2) and encouraged them to remain consistent in 2015. He said the school’s desire and drive to do well continues to inspire many schools in the city and across the district. “We know your good work stems from over 90 years of hard work and excellence and we want to assure that you have our support in everything that you do”, he pledged, urging them to continue making Polokwane, CDM and the province proud.

On Friday 16 January, the district municipality will reach out to schools that under-performed and tailor an intervention programme that will bring about changes in the performance of schools that are in rural areas. Mayors of all local municipalities in Capricorn will thus spread out to schools in their respective municipalities as part of the 2015 back to school programme to reach out to schools in need and help them overcome challenges that adversely affected their performance.

All visits will start at 07h00 at all schools.
