On 04 February 2025, Capricorn District Municipality Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Sport, Arts and Culture Cllr Makgalemele Makhura and District Chairperson of the Geographical Names Change Committee Cllr Themane joined the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture Limpopo MEC Funani Maseko for the Provincial Consultative Workshops on the South African Geographical Names Council Bill held at Fusion Boutique Hotel in Polokwane.
Welcoming attendees to the workshop, Cllr Makhura emphasized the deep cultural significance and rich heritage of African names.
Limpopo is the first province to be consulted on the amendment bill. The consultation process included commission-led deliberations, followed by feedback and discussions on the way forward.
The workshop brought together a diverse range of stakeholders, including traditional leaders, faith-based organizations, arts and cultural representatives, and sports federations.
