CDM TOGETHER WITH POLOKWANE MUNICIPALITY MARKS IDDR BUILD-UP AT MALL OF THE NORTH

The Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) in collaboration with Polokwane Municipality, joined communities at the Mall of the North in Polokwane on 01 October 2025, to commemorate the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDR).
Unlike in previous years, this year’s commemoration was taken directly to the shopping community, with exhibitions and awareness activities designed to reach people who may not always have access to community-based events. Similar activities will be rolled out in malls across all local municipalities in the district.
Government departments and agencies such as Home Affairs, SASSA, SAPS, and Polokwane Traffic Services took part, alongside the private sector, including SPCA, Mall of the North, Valterra Platinum Mine, Gateway Airports Authority Limited, and Polokwane Fire and Disaster Services.
The programme featured practical demonstrations by fire and rescue services, showcasing how emergency teams respond in times of disaster. Environmental and educational partners like the Polokwane Environmental Education Centre also played a role in raising awareness about prevention and preparedness. By bringing IDDR to everyday spaces, CDM aims to strengthen disaster awareness and community resilience.
