CDM to purchase more water tankers

IN a continuous effort to address water supply backlogs local municipalities, Capricorn District Municipality will purchase six additional water tankers. The decision was taken during a special Mayoral Committee meeting held today, 14 January 2015 to re-prioritize programmes that require urgent attention.

Water tankers are an interim measure to provide water to villages with severe water supply challenges such as dysfunctional water schemes, interruptions as a result of maintenance etc. Currently, each local municipality is serviced by three tankering trucks and now CDM is set to purchase additional six trucks before end of March to complement the existing ones. Depending on the demand and size of the population served by the local municipalities, the water tankers will regularly serve the public at different central points of supply for communities to fill up their drum containers on identified days.

The water tankers will therefore help communities that experience water scarcity to access clean and drinkable water and circumvent water-borne diseases.

Unemployed youth to benefit from CDM internships

Qualified, unemployed and job-seeking graduates in the district are set to be given an opportunity to gain on-the-job experience in their fields when Capricorn District Municipality offers them an internship.

Graduates will be drawn from a database of graduates in which they enlisted their CV’s in 2015. The internship programme runs for not less than 12 months and placement provides practical work experience to empower graduates with skills and knowledge required by the job market. This is one of significant strides that CDM makes to reduce unemployment among young people and enhance their prospects of finding permanent jobs.
