On 10 September 2021, Capricorn District Municipality took its Heritage Celebration and Covid-19 Awareness Campaign to Botlokwa at Machaka Traditional Authority in Molemole Local Municipality.
Traditional authorities remain a critical stakeholder in the fight against Covid-19 and this year’s campaign is held under the theme “Traditional Culture and Customs as a vehicle to combat the spread of Covid-19”.
As part of the awareness, presentations were rendered by Municipal Health Services covering Covid-19 and the role of traditional authorities in the fight against the pandemic, Fire & Rescue services focusing on fire safety and disaster management looked at the Disaster Risk Reduction and the importance thereof.
As government we also continue to intensify vaccination campaigns taking it closer to the people. This was in seen today when the Covid-19 vaccination program took place during the the heritage celebration and Covid-19 Awareness Campaign held at Ga-Machaka Moshate, Botlokwa in Molemole Local Municipality.
The department of Health Capricorn District joined CDM to ensure that people get vaccinated within their vicinity saving them time and money to travel to Botlokwa Hospital to receive their jab. Another vaccination site was also set at the Shopping Complex. Cllr Betty Kgare from CDM appealed to traditional leaders to join in and encourage them to call upon more people especially men to take vaccine.
“If it wasn’t for covid-19 we would be having a big celebration and seeing all different cultural attires and dances” said Cllr Kgare.
