Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) joined provincial leaders, stakeholders, educators and learners at the 2026 Provincial Community Safety Debates, held on 16 August 2026 at The Ranch Hotel in Polokwane.
Representing the Municipality, MMC for Development Planning and Environmental Management Services (DPEMS), Cllr Makgato Machaba, delivered the Vote of Thanks on behalf of CDM.
The debates brought together learners from all five districts of Limpopo, providing them with a platform to engage on critical community safety challenges affecting young people and communities. Key topics included gender-based violence, cyberbullying, child abuse and human trafficking.
The programme encouraged learners to critically examine these challenges, share their perspectives and propose practical solutions informed by their lived experiences and the realities of their communities.
Cllr Machaba commended the learners for their participation and courage in addressing issues that affect society. He also acknowledged the contribution of educators, adjudicators, government departments and various stakeholders whose support contributed to the success of the programme.
Capricorn District was proudly represented among the top performers, with Sethakgwe Ofentse from Kgakoa Secondary School securing fourth position in the mainstream schools category, while Letago Kgoete from Setotolwane Special School emerged first in the special schools category.
Their achievements demonstrate the talent, confidence and leadership potential of young people in the district.
CDM remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote youth development, active citizenship, social responsibility and safer communities, while creating platforms for young people to become part of the solution to challenges facing society.
