HIV/AIDS is one of the pandemics that has wreaked havoc within communities in South Africa. The pandemic has left many households headed by children.
The purpose of the commemoration was to ensure that the rights of people living with HIV and AIDS are not violated and that discrimination based on HIV AIDS, and STI is reduced and ultimately eliminated.
“HIV is no longer what people thought it was. It is highly manageable and people living with HIV can live a long, healthy life by starting treatment early and sticking to it. If you are HIV positive and you take your ARVs every day, you can achieve viral suppression and you can’t infect others,” said Cllr. Monica Mohale.
The commemoration was supported by different stakeholders, who were also rendering services to the community including the Department of Home Affairs, and Social Development. Messages of support were given by the Department of Health, the District Civil Society Forum and others. The commemoration was held on 26 November 2024 at Mohodi Ga-Manthata Village in Molemole Local Municipality.
