CDM HOLD WATER AND SANITATION FORUM

Capricorn District Municipality held a water and sanitation forum meeting at Blouberg Municipality on 21 May 2024, Blouberg Municipality Council Chamber in Senwabarwana. The forum aimed to look at the progress made concerning the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of water schemes in the area. The meeting was attended by the technical and political team represented by Councilors from both CDM and Blouberg Local Municipality.
It was highlighted in the forum that the main challenges that CDM is facing are theft and vandalism of water infrastructure. CDM has since partnered with South African Police Services (SAPS) to ensure visibility and ensure that all schemes or water infrastructure have security on-site. The Councillors are also playing a crucial role through awareness campaigns, ensuring that in their community meetings, they also inform people about the danger of vandalizing their projects and the consequences thereof.
Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Infrastructure, Cllr Monica Mohale urged councillors to also assist CDM and SAPS in identifying culprits, illegal connections and selling of Municipal water. The other challenge identified was related to the fast growing of population in different villages, prompting a higher demand for the O&M budget for the development of interim infrastructure for the village extentions along with the day-to-day demand on the maintenance of existing infrastructure. Councillors also presented water challenges in their respective areas. The water and sanitation forums were also held in Molemole Municipality and Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipalities on 15 and 22 May 2024 respectively.
