CDM ETHICS COMMITTEE CONDUCT A SESSION ON COUNCIL RULES AND ETHICS

CDM held its awareness campaign on the Code of Conduct for councillors and Council rules, which was coordinated by the Council Ethics Committee chaired by Cllr. Jara Masubelele on 04 September 2024 at CDM Council Chamber in Polokwane.
All 56 councillors in CDM were invited to the session that defined a code of conduct as a set of rules, principles, values, councillors expectations, behaviors, and relationships that CDM Council considers important and believes necessary for the success of the Council.
The session focused on the Rules of Council and compliance with the Code of Conduct. Cllrs also benefited from a presentation that touched on the social media policy on whether we comply or not.
Cllr Masubelele emphasised that all councillors must perform the function allocated to them by the municipal council and behave in a manner accepted to their constituencies and communities.
This session was responding to the legislative mandate that a municipality must establish clear ethical guidelines that outline acceptable behaviors and decision-making processes.
“Strength and integrity of this Council lies in the hands of you councillors. The quality of your honesty speaks to the quality of Council integrity. All chairperson of different committees in Council, let’s go and make sure our committees do justice to our communities’ expectations, which is service delivery, ” Cllr Masubelele said.
