Capricorn District Muncipality Disaster management team hosted a District Disaster Risk Management School Competition at its Council Chamber in Polokwane. The competition was held on 04 May 2021. The schools that participated were Komane Primary School from Mafefe under Lepelle-Nkempi Municipality, Rapoho Primary School in Mohodi under Molemole Municipality, Sephala Primary School in Mokomene under Molemole, and Tloukolobe Primary School in Ga-Morope under Polokwane Municipality.
The learners gave presentations around the theme “Substantially increase the number of disaster risk reduction strategies at schools to combat the effects of natural and man-made disasters. ” During the presentations judges were looking at whether the learners has insight knowledge of the theme, whether they were clear, understandable and accurate, whether the presentation outlines disaster risk reduction strategies, looking at preparedness, mitigation measures, prevention and reduction measures, response recovery and rehabilitation and the flow of the presentation.
The competition is aimed at promoting disaster risk management program at schools and promoting the culture of risk avoidance behaviors at school level. The results of the competition will be announced during a ceremony to be held on 11 May 2021. Secondary Schools in the district will do their presentations on 06 May 2021 at the district municipality.
