CDM Disaster Management embark on capacity building workshops

Capricorn District Municipality’s Disaster Management has embarked on a process of conducting disaster risk management capacity building workshops in all four local municipalities. The process kickstarted with the first workshop held on 03 March 2020 at Ga-Kibi in Blouberg Local Municipality.

Over the years the district has been exposed to a number of disaster incidents, which  may be attributed to the effects of climate change. Hazards such floods, hailstorms and veld fires are experienced often in the district. The municipality is thus training communities on how to avoid or to deal with such disasters.

A disaster is a serious disruption occurring over a short or long period of time that causes widespread human, material, economic or environmental loss which exceeds the ability of the affected community or society to cope using its own resources

The training is conducted to community structures, ward committee members and members of traditional authorities. The trainings will be held also in other local municipalities.
