Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) and Blouberg Municipality Councillors and officials led by MMC for Community Services Cllr Elizabeth Rahlana, have on 05 June 2026 carried out an Operation Hlasela inspection campaign in Senwabarwana, Ga-Marais, to check whether spaza shops are complying with municipal health, fire and disaster management regulations.During the inspections, officials found several violations, including; unlabelled food products, dented and expired food items that were not fit for human consumption. Unsafe electrical wiring. A lack of fire extinguishers, which poses a fire safety risk.
These findings suggest that some shops were operating in ways that could endanger the health and safety of customers and the community. The campaign was aimed at identifying such risks and ensuring that shop owners comply with the relevant bylaws.
