Capricorn District Municipality notes with concern, an emerging trend of criminality of households that bypass the new prepaid water meters to avoid paying for their water consumption. Such conduct will be met with a hefty fine as this is a wanton violation of by-laws.CDM is currently monitoring and verifying all installations to establish the condition of the prepaid meters and water supply and issue fines where there are violations. Consumers are further urged to use their new meters to control their spending and use water within their affordable levels.
The Municipality is also worried about the continued acts of theft and vandalism of electrical transformers that energize and operate water projects across the district. Residents are urged to report any suspicious activities around transformers to SAPS as soon as they become aware of such.
