As part of commemorating the National Science Week, CDM Special Focus Unit in collaboration with Lepelle-Nkumpi Municipality took 45 learners from Sebotse Combined School, Derek Kobe Secondary School, SJ Van Der Merwe Technical High School, Mosepedi Secondary School, Phaswane High School, Mamagogo High School and Mampotjane Secondary School to participate in the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Career Day held today at CSIR International Convention Center in Pretoria.The purpose of the expo was to expose learners from the rural schools to various career opportunities within the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) sector. The learners had the opportunity to network and interact with companies, researchers and scientists on various career opportunities, available bursary opportunities and also explored science and technologically-focused projects from various innovation hubs.
Learners received presentations on smart mobility cluster, 4iR, architectural science, actuarial science and chartered accounting.
The National Science Week (NSW) is an initiative of the Department of Science and Innovation that aims to increase the level of public understanding of science countrywide. This year, NSW is celebrated under the theme βCelebrating the role of basic sciences in the modern worldβ.
