CDM AND GIFT OF THE GIVERS PROVIDE RELIEF TO FLOOD AFFECTED COMMUNITIES IN BLOUBERG

As persistent heavy rains and flooding continue to affect parts of Limpopo Province, several households within Capricorn District have been displaced and left in urgent need of assistance.
In response, Capricorn District Municipality (CDM), in partnership with humanitarian organisation Gift of the Givers, distributed food parcels to more than 500 households in the communities of Ga-Mochemi and Inveraan in Blouberg Local Municipality on 24 January 2026.
The relief operation was led by MMC Cllr Makhura, who was officially deployed by the Executive Mayor of Capricorn District Municipality, Cllr Mamedupi Teffo, to oversee and coordinate the intervention on the ground. Affected families gathered at designated collection points where food parcels were handed over to support households whose homes and livelihoods were impacted by the floods.
MMC Makhura expressed appreciation to Gift of the Givers for their swift response and continued partnership with the Municipality in times of disaster, noting that such collaboration plays a critical role in protecting vulnerable communities during emergencies.
He further urged community members to remain vigilant and to avoid dangerous areas, including flooded roads and bridges, and cautioned against children playing near rivers and streams during this period of high water levels.
Capricorn District Municipality continues to monitor the situation closely and appeals to residents to report emergencies and disaster-related incidents through the toll-free Disaster Management number: 0800 666 777.
CDM remains committed to working with partners to ensure that affected communities receive timely relief and support as part of its mandate to safeguard lives and promote community resilience.
