The Blouberg Ward Committee Conference is a significant event that focuses on empowering and developing ward committees for the betterment of their communities. It is organized by Blouberg Local Municipality and run for three days from 06 – 08 November 2024 at Karibu Leisure Resort in Tzaneen.At this conference, Mayor Cllr Maria Thamaga is joined by Council Speaker, Cllr Kholofelo Lehong and Chief Whip, Cllr Lesiba Matsimela to support the efforts of ward committees in promoting community development. The ward committees, consisting of elected representatives from 22 wards in Blouberg, act as a vital link between the local government and citizens by addressing their specific needs and concerns.
“We urge you to work with community development workers, secretaries, councillors, and members of the community in resolving challenging service delivery issues. ” Council Chief Whip Cllr Lesiba Matsimela said.
Cllr Lesiba emphasised that through their involvement in monitoring service delivery, identifying gaps, and advocating for improvements, ward committees play a crucial role in ensuring accountability and transparency in local governance. “They contribute to the establishment of a strong and inclusive democratic system within their municipality” he said.
