Baroka FC crowned champions of Executive Mayors Football Championship under 19

 

Baroka FC crowned champions of Executive Mayors Football Championship under 19. The team from Ga-Mphahlele known for its unshakable fighting spirit in the game of football walloped Barcelona FC 4 – 0 at the finals held at Mohodi Ga-Manthata on 25 June 2017 in Molemole Municipality.

 

 

 

Baroka FC won prizes at an approximate value of R25 000. The prizes included a cheque of R15 000, trophy, medals, sport equipment and attire. The month long tournament was officially launched during the month of May and has seen teams battling it out at their locals moving through to the quarter and semi-finals.

 

 

 

The four teams that managed to make it to the semi-finals were, Baroka FC from Ga-Mphahlele and Koedoskoop FC from Ga-Mathabatha (both from Lepelle-Nkumpi) and Boyne Tigers from Boyne and Barcelona FC from Mankweng (both from Polokwane Municipality). Both Baroka and Barcelona won against Boyne Tigers and Kodoeskoop respectively to advance to the finals.

 

 

 

The managing director of Baroka FC, Khurishi Mphahlele was very delighted with the performance of his team and the overall level of football displayed at the tournament. He selected one player to come for the trials at Baroka FC. The tournament is used as a platform to scout young talent and is organised in partnership with South African Football Association (SAFA) Capricorn Region.

 

 

 

During the tournament thirty players were identified with a purpose to expose their talent and afford them an opportunity to market and display their skills. The identified players will play friendly matches against the Premier Soccer League teams Baroka FC, Polokwane City, Black Leopard and other teams in higher divisions from Limpopo province. The tournament has produced players that are now in the PSL namely Thabiso Kutumela and Gift Motupa, both playing for Orlando Pirates and Theresho Mapheto of Baroka FC.
