The impact of alcohol and drug abuse continues to destroy communities and families, and the youth in South Africa are hard hit, due to the increase in abuse of alcohol and illicit drugs.
The 31st of August is international drug overdose awareness day. SANCA in Limpopo and CDM commemorated the day by hosting an event to create awareness on substance abuse and to deal with the stigma associated with drug abuse. The event held in Polokwane also involved a walk from Jack Botes Hall to the old graveyard in town. This was to also remember those who passed away because of drug overdose.
The event was also supported by other stakeholders such as the provincial Department of Social Development, Polokwane Municipality and Limpopoβs Liqour Board.
