The official handover of the Mehlareng Water Supply Project took place on 02 September 2026, marking another important step towards strengthening water infrastructure and improving access to reliable and sustainable water services for the community.
The Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) responsible for Infrastructure Services, Cllr Maite Mohale, introduced the project to the Mehlareng community during a handover event held at the Mehlareng Community Hall in Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality.
Funded through the Water Services Infrastructure Grant (WSIG), the project was valued at R7.49 million and was scheduled for implementation over three months, from 02 September to 02 December 2026.
The project was being implemented by Chisa Multi Projects Construction, with Zakumi Consulting Engineers serving as the consulting engineers.
The scope of work included the construction of approximately 3 kilometres of 110mm-diameter water pipeline, drilling and equipping of two new boreholes, electrification of the boreholes, construction of two concrete pump houses, and installation of steel palisade fencing around the borehole sites.
The project demonstrated the municipality’s continued commitment to addressing water infrastructure needs and improving access to essential services for communities across the District.
