Members of the Mayoral Committee for Local Economic Development, Cllr Mamabolo, together with MMC for Development Planning, Cllr Matome Masoga, welcomed renowned humanitarian adventurer Kingsley Holgate and his crew to the Capricorn District.The team is retracing the historic Tropic of Capricorn expedition first undertaken by Holgate 25 years ago, travelling along the “invisible line” of 23.5 degrees south across Africa.
The Tropic of Capricorn is not only a significant geographic landmark but also an important tourism attraction node within the district, drawing visitors who wish to experience this unique global latitude line.
The current crew, comprising members from South Africa and the United States, continues this legacy of exploration and humanitarian outreach, and the Municipality is honoured to be part of their inspiring journey. The welcome took place on 12 February 2026 at the Tropic of Capricorn Monument along the N1 Road between Botlokwa and Bandelierkop.
