CDM MARKS DISASTER RISK REDUCTION DAY WITH A CALL FOR COMMUNITY ACTION

Capricorn District Municipality (CDM)  hosted the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDR) commemoration with a vibrant event at Lepelle-Nkumpi, urging communities to take proactive steps in preventing disasters.
The celebration brought together key stakeholders, including the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Department of Education, Limpopo Economic Development and Tourism, and local schools, all united under this year’s theme: “Everyday Counts, Act for Resilience Today.”
Learners from various schools around Lepelle-Nkumpi participated enthusiastically, engaging in disaster awareness activities and enjoying lively music and dance performances. Addressing the gathering, Cllr. Elizabeth Rahlana, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services, underscored the importance of preparedness and collaboration.
“Disaster is everybody’s business,” she said. “We all have a role to play in reducing risks and protecting our communities.”
Similar IDDR events were held across other local municipalities within CDM, highlighting the district’s ongoing commitment to building safer and more resilient communities. The commemoration was hosted on 17 October 2025.
