The Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) Spring Matric School Camp officially closed on 2 October 2026 at Ratanang Special School in Senwabarwana, Blouberg Local Municipality, with a renewed call for the Class of 2026 to remain focused, disciplined and determined to excel in the upcoming National Senior Certificate examinations.
Cllr. JJ Mavanyisi, representing Executive Mayor Cllr. Mamedupi Teffo, led the closing programme and reaffirmed the Municipality’s commitment to supporting education and improving learner performance across the district.
The camp provided targeted academic support to 313 Grade 12 learners from 78 schools across 16 circuits. It focused on learners who were struggling with two subjects, offering additional lessons and academic guidance in Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Accounting, Geography, Life Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Sepedi and English.
The programme recorded encouraging improvements, with some learners progressing from failing pre-camp assessments to achieving marks above 83% in post-camp assessments. These results highlighted the value of focused academic support, dedicated teaching and learners’ commitment to improving their performance.
“We smell a pass here, we see Bachelors,” said Cllr. Mavanyisi, expressing confidence in the learners’ potential to achieve positive results. He encouraged them to approach their examinations with courage, determination and a clear sense of purpose.
“Have courage to tackle your examination with purpose. Capricorn District is backing the Class of 2026 all the way,” he said.
CDM contributed R90,000 towards the Spring Matric Camp, supporting academic programmes, nutritious meals and a disciplined learning environment conducive to studying. The investment forms part of the Municipality’s ongoing efforts to strengthen educational outcomes and provide learners with opportunities to reach their full potential.
Matric camps play an important role in preparing learners for their final examinations by addressing learning gaps, reinforcing key concepts and building confidence. They also encourage effective study habits, time management and peer learning, helping learners approach examinations with greater preparedness.
The Municipality hosts two matric camps annually—the Winter and Spring Matric Camps—as part of its continued commitment to education and learner development. As the Class of 2026 enters the final stage of examination preparation, learners have been encouraged to apply the knowledge gained during the camp, remain consistent in their studies and strive for the best possible results.
Through these initiatives, Capricorn District Municipality continues to invest in education as a key driver of individual opportunity and community development.
