As South Africa marks Women’s Month, the spotlight shines brightly on nine dynamic women who are setting the standard in local governance through excellence, accountability, and visionary leadership. Among them is Cllr Mamedupi Teffo, the Executive Mayor of Capricorn District Municipality, whose commitment to clean governance has once again been confirmed through a clean audit outcome.
In a powerful statement shared by the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), the recognition celebrates women leaders who are transforming local government into a space of integrity, service delivery, and financial prudence. These nine women-led municipalities have demonstrated that strong, ethical, and capable leadership is not only possible, it is thriving under the stewardship of women.
Cllr Teffo’s inclusion in this prestigious group is both a testament to her steadfast leadership and a reflection of Capricorn District Municipality’s collective efforts to prioritise good governance, compliance, and fiscal discipline. Under her guidance, the municipality has built a culture of performance excellence, transparency, and community-centred service delivery.
β€œThis recognition is not mine alone. It belongs to the people of Capricorn, to the staff who work tirelessly every day, and to every woman leader who dares to dream and act boldly in service of their communities,” said the Executive Mayor Teffo.
Her achievement sends a strong message, that municipalities led by capable and ethical leaders can deliver quality services, account for public funds, and inspire trust in government institutions. More than a technical accolade, a clean audit speaks to values, integrity, accountability, and service, all of which the Executive Mayor Teffo has embodied throughout her term.
As Women’s Month starts, SALGA’s celebration is more than ceremonial. It is a clarion call to support and uplift women in governance, to invest in leadership that delivers, and to acknowledge the women changing the narrative of local government in South Africa.
