PROVINCIAL YOUTH MONTH LAUNCH IN CDM

Capricorn District Municipality joined the Limpopo Provincial Government as it launched the Provincial Youth Month celebration at Hwiti High School in Mankweng under Polokwane Municipality on 03 June 2025. The official launch of Youth Month Programmes commemorates the youth of 1976 and the late Peter “Lion of the North” Mokaba, under the theme “Skills for the changing world – Empowering youth for meaningful economic participation.”
The launch was a strategic initiative organised to highlight the significance of commemorating the 49 years since the 1976 Soweto Uprising, where students protested the apartheid regime’s imposition of Afrikaans as a language of instruction in schools. The launch also served as a continuous reflection of the liberation that was fought for by the class of ’76.
Youth Month is a time for remembrance, reflection, and a renewed commitment to the empowerment and development of young individuals in South Africa. The 2025 Youth Month theme reflects a shared national commitment to building a future-ready generation through education, skills training, entrepreneurship, and meaningful economic inclusion. It also coincides with the celebration of 31 Years of Democracy in South Africa, offering an important moment to reflect on the progress made and the work still required to ensure that no young person is left behind.
