PROVINCIAL INITIATION CO-ORDINATING COMMITTEE CONSULTS DISTRICT MAKGOSHI ON CUSTOMARY INITIATION ACT AMENDMENT

The Limpopo Provincial Initiation Co-ordinating Committee (PICC) met with District Makgoshi at the Capricorn District Municipality Council Chamber.
The purpose of the engagement was to consult Traditional Leaders from Capricorn and Waterberg Districts on the proposed amendments to the Customary Initiation Act 2 of 2021.
During the session, Makgoshi were given the opportunity to raise inputs, proposals, and concerns regarding the amendments, ensuring that their voices guide the refinement of the legislation.
The consultation was also attended by representatives from the CRL Rights Commission and the South African Police Service (SAPS).
The PICC, as a regulatory structure, is tasked with overseeing and coordinating initiation practices in Limpopo. Its core mandate is to ensure that traditional practices are preserved, while simultaneously safeguarding the health, dignity, and rights of initiates.
